In third grade, we all try really hard to follow our classroom promises daily. There are days that we need reminders and sometimes there are days where we need to take a break, so we can come back ready to learn. However, other days, we have a hard time following our promises throughout the day. Many times this causes problems not only for the student breaking the promises, but those trying to learn as well. On these days, your child will bring home a "Stop and Think About It" note. On the note your child will write about the promise they most recently broke. Please review this note with your child, then sign and return in the next day. If you ever have questions about the situation, please don't hesitate to ask.

I just got this from the Gary Byker Library. Looks like something that might be fun for the students to participate in! Yesterday was Play Doh! (We celebrate the little things in life :).
We had fun using the play doh to learn more about each other. They molded their dough into favorite things about them, then shared their creations with their neighbor. We also talked about how play doh can be a calming tool when we are upset. It can also be something appropriate to fidget with when we are having a hard time concentrating. Needless to say, we had lots of fun! We had fun completing a team building activity today. What was it? Using a bag of "stuff," we needed to create the longest line. The students were quite creative. But the best part? They all truly worked together to accomplish this goal! Today was an important day! We created our classroom promises. To do this we worked through answering these questions:
After discussing these questions, we came up with words that we all agreed on. Words that we are going to strive to "be" all year long. Words we are promising to keep. What happens when we break these promises? Mrs. Hultink will give us a reminder. If we continue to struggle, or we notice that we can't handle learning at the time, we will take a cool down. Cool downs are truly a time to take a break from learning, in order to come back ready to learn! If a student is continuing to break promises, logical consequences will be put into place. Sometimes this looks like a phone call home, time in the office, referral, think about note, student/teacher/parent meeting, etc. The consequence is dependent and unique to the student and behavior. Here are some pictures of our class creating our promises! Our promises are listed below! Our Promises
We had such a fun day today! We learned about Respectful Rachel and created a "respect rap." Then we talked about things we hope to learn this year. Next, we read a book called "Don't Laugh at Me," which reminded us not to laugh at others, no matter what they look like or do (see the video below). We learned favorite things about each other, played a "Would You Rather" game, did some team building activities, and then finally had time to READ! It was truly a great day! Check out the pictures and videos below! All About Me Math, Flag Raising Ceremony, Things that Make us Smile.....just part of our great 2nd day! We had a great first day! We learned about Really Safe Rita (a third grade expert), played a game to get to know Mrs. Hultink better, found friends who have done unique things, decorated our name tags, read some books, enjoyed recess (OUTSIDE!), toured our school building, and many more small things! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend our Open House. It is so nice to put faces with names. Looking forward to Tuesday!
Please take the time to fill out this questionnaire on your child. This helps me get to know your child better and how best to meet their needs. You can fill it out directly below or use this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ODLlbEvCKwBzJqxu8YlaDoL1JI4Ca_ugX-dyGtuQOqI/viewform?usp=send_form
